The Stoddert Garden is being funded, designed and constructed by DC Greens in partnership with the Stoddert PTA and with generous support from Whole Foods and a Building Healthy Communities grant from Home Depot.
The 4,000 square foot garden will include eight raised beds for edibles, an herb garden, a native plant area, a butterfly-shaped pollinator garden, a shaded teaching area, a tool shed, a sink station, a compost area and a berry bramble. The garden will also feature a 36 square foot greenhouse made by students from recycled plastic bottles. To see a pdf of the garden plan click HERE.
An entrance sculpture is being designed by artist Patrick Dougherty and constructed, over the course of a week, by his colleague, Andy Lynch. Andy will be assisted each day by a members of the community and sculpture students from the Corcoran.
Stoddert has joined the Monarch Sister Schools Program and the butterfly garden will be installed by their chief botanist and designer, Christopher Puttock.
